Delete your account

Last updated · SnapVocab

You can have your SnapVocab account and the data stored with it deleted at any time, for any reason, without giving one.

In the app

This is the fastest way, and the only one that takes effect immediately.

  1. Open SnapVocab and go to the You tab.
  2. Tap the gear in the top right to open Settings, then tap Delete account at the bottom.
  3. Read what is about to be removed, type DELETE to confirm, and tap Delete my account.
  4. Confirm once more. You are signed out, and the account is gone.

It is deleted at the moment you confirm — there is no waiting period, no grace period and no way to undo it. You need a working internet connection, because the app will not tell you the account is gone until the server says it is.

By email

If you cannot reach the app — you lost the device, or you have already uninstalled it — write to us instead.

  1. Open a new email from the email address your account uses — that is how we confirm the request is yours.
  2. Send it to hello@snapvocabapp.com with the subject Delete my SnapVocab account.
  3. We reply to confirm we have the request, and to warn you once that it cannot be undone.
  4. We delete the account. We aim to do this within 30 days of your request, and usually much sooner.

If you signed in with Google, use the Gmail address on that Google account. If you can no longer reach that address, write to us anyway and we will find another way to verify you.

What is deleted

  • Your account: name, email address, password, profile picture.
  • Your Google sign-in connection, if you used one, including the stored tokens.
  • Your sign-in sessions, with the IP addresses and device details on them.
  • Your study data: every word's review schedule, your finished sessions and answers, your streak, XP, level, badges, titles and league history.
  • Your settings: exam, timeline, target score, daily goal and onboarding assessment.
  • Your mountains, and the word lists you imported yourself.
  • Everything you wrote: your own mnemonics, your edits to word definitions and examples, and your votes on other people's mnemonics.
  • Your friendships, friend requests and friend code.
  • Your subscription record on our side.

Nothing is kept back for a retention period. The deletion is one transaction: it either removes all of it or none of it.

What is not deleted

  • Duels someone else challenged you to. A duel belongs to two people. Your score stays in your opponent's record of that match, with your account no longer attached to it. Duels you started are deleted outright.
  • A mnemonic you shared that other people adopted. If someone voted for one of your public mnemonics or pinned it to a word, the text stays for them, with your name taken off it. Everything you wrote that nobody else took up is deleted.
  • Backups. Your data may survive in routine server backups for a short period before those backups rotate out. It is not used for anything in the meantime.
  • Records we are required to keep, such as a transaction record needed for tax or fraud purposes, if any exist.

Your subscription

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings first, or you may keep being charged for something you can no longer use. (Paid plans are not on sale yet, so this does not apply to anyone today.)

If you only want to take a break

Signing out keeps everything where it is. Deletion is permanent — your review schedule, streak and history cannot be rebuilt afterwards, even if you sign up again with the same address.
